Living "off the grid" might be too much of a shock for most urbanites. The downsizing might be a reasonable step into the "sustainable living" lifestyle.

There are some REALLY nice and even spacious looking (feel) designed homes. I think Oprah profiled these kinds of homes and they are affordable, easyier to maintain, less draining on resources, and NICE. Try and Google something like "cool mini homes." I would love to live in one.

Thanks for sharing Deborah!

All wonderful ideas, but someone needs to address the reality of gardening and composting in the city or suburbs--rats! Local pest control specialist say they are seeing major infestations since 2007 of roof rats. I fear that increase interest in yardwaste/foodwaste recycling, backyard composting, as well as gardening might be contributing factors. Any ideas on this?

Great new course Lacy, and nice post! This also reminds me of the recent infographic from EWG and CleanMetrics: http://www.ewg.org/meateatersguide/
Great to expand the conversation about the impact of our actions. It is sometimes shocking to me how little we know about something we do 3+ times a day!
